MIGUEL ADROVER (Calonge 1965)
Adrover began his career as a designer in the field of clothing when he arrived in New York in 1991. This medium allowed him to produce, in a self-taught way, garments through which he expressed his social and political reflections.
In 1999, he presented his first runway show Manaos-Chiapas - NYC followed by Midtown (2000), The Bank, Meet East (2001), Utopia (2001), Citizen of the World (2002) and Surreal Real World (2003). In 2004, he continued his artistic production with the collection The Americans, followed in 2008 by Hiding the Nature. He ended this creative phase with the collection Out of my Mind (2012).
As manifestos on the runways, these collections made an impact on the fashion world, to which Miguel Adrover has offered, as his main contribution, the value of reusing used garments and fabrics by upcycling and customization. In group exhibitions, Miguel Adrover's works have been shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts (New York, 2000) with the piece "I love N.Y.", as well as at the Washington Bellevue Museum (2003) in the exhibition The Greatest Show on Earth and at the Victoria & Albert Museum (London, 2007), in the exhibition New York Fashion Now.
On a national level, the piece "Mosaic Coat" was present in the exhibition Behind the Mirror. Spanish Fashion at the Reina Sofía Museum (Madrid, 2003) and his clothing designs are part of the archives of these museums, among others.
Locally, Miguel Adrover has presented an individual exhibition of pictorial photography from the series La Mort amb Pebres Torrats at FCM (Santanyí, 2018).
In 2000, the Council of Fashion Designers awarded Miguel Adrover the first Perry Ellis Award for Best New Designer of the Year and he was nominated for the award for Best Avant-Garde Designer at the Vogue Fashion Awards. He received the National Fashion Design Award 2018 by the Ministry of Culture and Sport from the Spanish Government and in 2019, the Medalla d'Or de la Vila of Santanyí, where he is from.
